Interprofessional Health Sciences

The Bachelor of Science in Interprofessional Health Sciences (B.S. in IPHS) program provides students with a broad understanding of the healthcare field. This major prepares graduates for a range of entry-level healthcare roles and offers strong preparation for graduate studies in healthcare administration or professional programs like athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and more.

We offer three concentrations, and all classes are located at the University's South Orange, NJ campus:

  • Health Sciences Administration and Management: Students take courses in the foundations of creating and implementing health policy and management, as well as study Healthcare Leadership and Team Dynamics to align with the School’s interprofessional education mission. A Capstone course and an internship are required in this concentration.
  • Exercise Science: Students take courses such as exercise physiology, exercise program designs for special populations, nutrition and several others within the Biology and Chemistry departments to align with the School’s interprofessional education mission. An internship is required.
  • Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences Marketing: Students take course such as Health Consumerism and Pharmaceutical and clinical promotions. A Capstone course is part of this concentration and an internship is required. 

We also offer a 3+2 program – B.S. in IPHS (Exercise Science track) plus M.S. in Athletic Training.

Curriculum

All students who choose IPHS as a major will take a core set of 6 courses (16 credits) alongside their 36 credits of concentration courses.

  • Introduction to Health Sciences and Health Careers
  • Professionalism, Practice and Ethics for Healthcare Professionals
  • Promotion of Health and Wellness in the Health Sciences
  • Statistics and Research in the Health Sciences
  • Social Determinants of Health for the Health Sciences
  • Legal Concepts for Healthcare Delivery

In addition, there are 27 credits of electives that can be used toward developing a minor course of study, a semester abroad or to take their pre-medical study program.
