Seton Hall Esports Reaches Final Four in Fall 2024 Playfly Tournament

Esports labSeton Hall's Rocket League and League of Legends teams have advanced to the Round of Four in the inaugural Playfly College Esports Fall 2024 Tournament after securing key victories. Meanwhile, the Overwatch 2 squad delivered a commendable performance during their tournament run. This week highlighted the resilience and skill of Seton Hall's esports teams as they competed with determination to represent the University at the highest level.

Rocket League Dominates George Fox University

On November 11, Seton Hall's Rocket League varsity team faced off against George Fox University and secured a clean sweep, winning 4-0 in their best-of-seven series. The Pirates demonstrated excellent coordination and game sense, controlling each match and minimizing George Fox's scoring opportunities. With this victory, the Rocket League team advances to the Round of Four, where they will face Michigan Tech University on November 18 at 8:30 p.m. ET in what promises to be a high-stakes showdown.

League of Legends Looks Forward to Rematch Against Stony Brook

On November 12, Seton Hall's League of Legends team advanced to the Round of Four after a forfeit win against Iona. This progression sets up an exciting rematch against Stony Brook University, a team that dealt Seton Hall a tough loss earlier in the season. Seton Hall’s League of Legends players have been preparing rigorously for this opportunity, eager to showcase their growth and potentially turn the tables in the semifinals. The rematch is scheduled for November 19, with the time to be determined.

Overwatch 2’s Valiant Effort Against Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)

On November 13, the Overwatch 2 team delivered an inspiring performance in the Round of Eight but ultimately fell short against a formidable RIT lineup. This tournament run was nothing short of commendable; the students on the Overwatch 2 team have been leading the Club Overwatch program throughout their entire careers at Seton Hall. This senior year, they had the honor of competing as an official varsity team for the first time. Representing the University at this level marks a significant milestone, and they are eagerly anticipating the spring season, where they will make program history by competing in the BIG EAST for the first time as Seton Hall Overwatch.

Looking Ahead

With Rocket League and League of Legends advancing to the Round of Four, Seton Hall Esports remains focused and determined to bring home a championship. The upcoming matches against Michigan Tech University and Stony Brook University will undoubtedly be challenging, but the Pirates are prepared to meet any obstacles head-on.

Congratulations to all of Seton Hall's esports teams for their hard work and dedication this season. Let’s rally behind our Pirates as they continue their journey to glory!
