Antonella Burrini, this years recipient, is a English major in the 3+3 J.D. program from Boonton, New Jersey
The Buccino Leadership Institute is honored to announce the appointment of the newest Buccino Scholar, Antonella Burrini, a member of the Class of 2029. Burrini was selected by the 2026 Buccino Scholar Committee for her academic excellence, passion for the community and servant leadership.
Burrini’s journey reflects her deep commitment to leadership through service, as she has continuously sought opportunities to make a meaningful impact on those around her, beginning with founding a community-based charity organization and continuing with her deep involvement at the University and Institute.
The Dr. Gerald P. Buccino ’63 Endowed Scholarship, established in 1996, offers a four-year scholarship and mentorship to one first-year member each year. Buccino’s dedication to student leadership and development is reflected in this merit-based opportunity, which emphasizes academic excellence, leadership qualities and commitment to personal growth.
Burrini defines leadership as leading with empathy, authenticity, and purpose. To her, leadership is not only about achievement but about how one inspires and treats others. She believes in holding herself and her team accountable while always striving to make a difference.
Her passion for leadership began long before college. In high school, Burrini founded Boonton Antlers, an organization dedicated to encouraging young adults to serve their communities. Through this initiative, she worked with causes including special needs children, homeless veterans and drug awareness and prevention. Her desire to help others and be someone people can trust ultimately drew her to the Institute, where she knew she could grow both as a leader and as a person.
Since joining the program, Burrini has experienced significant personal and academic growth. Through workshops focused on topics such as imposter syndrome and goal-setting, she has developed greater confidence and ambition. These experiences have pushed her beyond her limits and helped her reach her full potential. She has also been introduced to a diverse community of peers, gaining new perspectives and strengthening her problem-solving acumen. Most importantly, it has fostered important relationships, including a close friendship that she credits as one of the most influential parts of her college journey so far.
Burrini’s joy comes from continuously striving to grow and challenge herself while maintaining meaningful connections with others. She prioritizes self-improvement, emotional awareness, and collaboration. She understands that success is not only personal but also rooted in the relationships she has built.
Assuming the Role of Buccino Scholar
In her role as Buccino Scholar, Burrini is committed to exemplifying leadership values. She aims to take every opportunity to positively influence those around her and contribute to the program's continued growth. She also plans to actively engage with fellow students, build strong connections and represent the Institute in a way that reflects its mission and legacy.
Burrini views this honor not only as a personal achievement but as a reflection of the support and sacrifices made by her family. She credits her parents for instilling in her the values of compassion, accountability and selflessness, which continue to guide her leadership style and ambitions. As a scholar, she is motivated to give back more to the Institute and to fully embrace the responsibilities that come with the role.
Looking Towards the Journey Ahead
Looking ahead, Burrini plans to pursue a career in law. While she is still exploring specific areas of practice, her ultimate goal is to advocate for others by highlighting the humanity in every individual. She hopes to challenge the idea that people should be defined solely by their mistakes. Instead, she is emphasizing accountability, growth and the capacity for change.
“I will continue to exemplify the Institute’s legacy by leading with empathy, serving with a purpose and using every opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact,” said Burrini.
Applying the leadership skills and emotional intelligence she has developed through the Institute, Burrini is determined to become a compassionate and effective professional. She believes that understanding others and working collaboratively can make a difference in her career and in the lives of those she serves.
