Major Exploration and Declaration Expo

The Center for Academic Success (CAS) continues to champion the academic journey of first-year students who have yet to declare a major by offering tailored support through the CORE 1001: University Life course and a series of engagement initiatives. All first-year students entering as undecided are enrolled in a specialized cohort section of University Life, which includes participation in a virtual speaker series designed to foster exploration and connection.

This speaker series provides students with valuable opportunities to engage with faculty and staff from a wide range of academic disciplines, as well as professionals from various industries. These interactions are intended to help students identify their academic interests and begin envisioning potential career paths.

In partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences, the Career Center and the Office of the Registrar, CAS has also launched the Major Exploration and Declaration Expo, an event held twice annually to support students in their decision-making process. The inaugural expo took place on October 7 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., drawing participation from representatives of all academic colleges across the University. A total of 215 students attended, engaging in meaningful conversations with faculty, academic advisors, and representatives from the Center for Academic Success, Career Center, Pre-Professional Advising Center, and Office of Graduate Affairs. Students were also given the opportunity to officially declare a major or minor on-site, with immediate approval from the Registrar’s Office.

According to the event survey, participants indicated the following:

  •  56% engaged with a faculty member in their intended major.
  •  27% declared a major while at the expo.
  •  92% indicated the expo increased their knowledge of their intended major at Seton Hall.

The next Major Exploration and Declaration Expo is scheduled for March 10, 2026.

To further assist students in academic planning, CAS, in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Registrar’s Office, will host two upcoming workshops focused on degree planning using DegreeWorks:

These initiatives reflect the University’s ongoing commitment to guiding undecided students toward informed and confident academic choices.
