SHU-TV Debuts First Student Production in the Innovation Hub

The Innovation Hub Production Studio recently served as the setting for a milestone in student media, with the recording of SHU-TV’s Campus Nightly. The production marked the first student-led show filmed in the space, made possible through collaboration with the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center (TLTC). 

More than a standard taping, the broadcast reflected a coordinated, cross-campus effort that showcased the University’s talented students. One team operated from the Innovation Hub’s Production Studio, filming an interview with Christopher Petruzzi, director of design and digital media, while another worked simultaneously from the University Center studio to capture additional content.

"Working with such high-tech equipment and gaining hands-on experience was absolutely amazing," said Isabella Barbarino, a journalism major and SHU-TV Campus Nightly correspondent who conducted the interview. "Access to the Innovation Hub and its amenities is one of the greatest opportunities Seton Hall has given me. It supports my future in broadcast journalism and encourages students to think creatively and explore new technologies."

Barbarino’s experience reflects a broader impact for students working in the space. SHU-TV Student Director Cooper Roche also emphasized the significance of the opportunity and the capabilities of the new studio.

"It was truly an honor to be the first student group to have a production in the new studio," Roche said. "As the director for this episode, I’m very happy with how it came out. The space allowed us to expand our horizons and push the show further than it ever has been. I’m very thankful to the TLTC, as well as my fantastic crew, for making this a reality." 

For students, access to the Innovation Hub represents more than upgraded equipment. It reflects a shift toward immersive, experiential learning at Seton Hall, with spaces designed to support hands-on work across disciplines. The collaboration between SHU-TV and the TLTC is one example of this in action, providing students with professional-grade tools along with the guidance and technical support needed to navigate the studio environment.

Barbarino emphasized the impact of the environment on the team’s work. "What stood out to me the most was the professionalism we cultivated as a team," she said. "We were given the responsibility to operate in a space that felt like a professional studio, and that pushed us to rise to that level."

Roche also pointed to the TLTC’s support and partnership as key to the student experience and success of the production. "What stood out to me the most was the collaboration between the Innovation Hub and SHU-TV," Roche said. "We had fantastic support from the TLTC, and that collaboration was incredibly important."

Beyond the technical execution, the production underscored the value of experiential learning at Seton Hall. Students from a range of academic backgrounds, including communication, media and education, worked together in a fast-paced environment, taking on professional roles that required creativity, collaboration and adaptability. This reflects the University’s commitment to preparing students for real-world success. The Innovation Hub is more than a facility. It is a platform for interdisciplinary engagement, creative exploration and skill development, giving students the opportunity to apply what they learn in meaningful, hands-on ways right on campus.
