STEM Connect

Promoting STEM Opportunities

The STEM Connect Initiative within the College of Arts and Sciences supports Seton Hall students in their learning, research and career development in science and technology.

STEM Connect promotes STEM connections between biology, chemistry and biochemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, and other fields. The initiative fosters collaboration, socialization and hiring opportunities among undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and alumni of Seton Hall’s STEM-related programs and careers.

STEM Connect provides students with hands-on, original, and impactful scientific experiences and in bridging the connections between the sciences. As part of this initiative, the College is establishing new, collaborative programs, affordable five-year dual degrees, and inclusive opportunities and events that afford students individual mentorship in labs, chances to co-author and present research, and more competitive scholarships.

  Undergraduate STEM Research Awards

Introduced in 2024, the Undergraduate STEM Research Award affords students the opportunity to participate in real-world laboratory experiments and research with their professors during the academic year and in the summer.  The award provides students with the financial compensation to be present in the lab and focus on their research instead of seeking external employment. In 2024, 18 student-professor collaborations were funded.

  Graduate Funding

In addition to providing funded research opportunities, we have raised the level of stipends for graduate teaching assistants (in STEM and other disciplines), to attract the most qualified teachers and researchers and to enable them to focus on their work.

  Supporting a New Robotics Team

In its very first year of competition, our new Robotics Team not only qualified for the national tournament in Texas, in April 2024, where they placed 21st in the world. Not only is the team succeeding at the international level, but it gives back to the community, meeting with K-12 robotics club members at local schools and camps. This interdisciplinary team exercises students in computer science, physics, design and business skills. Learn more »

Investing in Programs, Facilities and Faculty

Academically, the College of Arts and Sciences will be launching a new B.S. in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience along with five-year pathways for students to obtain a B.S. and M.S. in Biology, Data Science or in the new M.S. in Applied Physics and Engineering program. Additionally, the College is actively working to expand and improve its facilities and programs in applied computing and computer science, with a new cybersecurity lab, computer engineering lab, and faculty hires. The College is also investing in upgraded biology teaching labs and additional biology faculty.

  Cultivating Our Community

A special 'STEM Connect' is held each year part of the Seton Hall's Alumni Reunion weekend in addition to other meetings to showcase student and faculty work and foster relationships with alumni in science fields.
