Dorothy Day: Servant of God and Modern-Day Prophet

Seton Hall University's University Core Department along with the Department of Catholic Studies invite you to celebrate the life and legacy of Dorothy Day, Servant of God. Her granddaughter, Martha Hennessy, will share personal memories of Day’s journey and discuss her experience with The Catholic Worker at 2 p.m.,Wednesday, November 6, in the Chancellor Suite (University Center).

About the Speaker/Event

Martha Hennessy is the seventh child of Dorothy Day’s only child, Tamar Hennessy. She is an American Catholic peace activist and member of the Catholic Worker Movement, which her grandmother, Dorothy Day, co-founded.

Dorothy Day, a prominent non-violent social activist, demonstrated the nature of serving God through her deep commitment to social justice and compassion. She co-founded the Catholic Worker Movement in 1933, dedicating her life to advocating for the poor and the oppressed. Dorothy Day embodied a radical love rooted in the teachings of Christ. Her activism included providing food, shelter, and dignity to those in need while challenging injustices. Her life was marked by profound faith and unwavering dedication, and she continues to inspire as a model of faithful servitude and Christian charity.
