Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice houses four distinct undergraduate major programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). The Department also contributes to several minors, certificates, and dual-degree programs within the realm of social science. All programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge areas and skill sets to analyze, critically evaluate, and understand global and domestic concerns and how to apply that knowledge to ameliorate and prevent social problems. The Department places strong emphasis on social change, human diversity, cross-cultural awareness, social justice, and service.
Sociology cultivates the sociological imagination in students to promote personal development and competent social engagement, enabling them to look behind the scenes to identify social forces that shape behavior and perceptions.
Anthropology gives students the global perspective to examine our world with a critical and understanding eye as they learn of the different ways people around the world devise solutions to the problems that are common to us all.
Criminal Justice provides students with the scientific foundations of understanding crime and extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system.
Social and Behavioral Sciences facilitates a broad knowledge base in the social sciences for students who value curricular flexibility.
